The Slow Food “Guide to Extra-Virgin Olive Oil” was published just a few weeks ago.
This year, for the first time, it includes I SERGENTI. They have awarded us the “Slow Oil” label for our Organic, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil IL TRADIZIONALE.
First, some information about Slow Food: Slow Food is a global, grassroots organisation committed to high quality food, to respect for food producers, to sustainable production thanks to the knowledge and characteristics of the local ecosystem. The association was founded in 1986 in Piedmont. Over the years it has spread as a grassroots movement across the world. Today, Slow Food works in 150 countries to promote good, clean and fair food for all (www.slowfood.com). This is thanks to the work of thousands of members, passionate about promoting local foods, traditional gastronomy and food production. It takes a stand against fast food and fast life styles that have become such a huge part of European society.
What does Slow Oil mean? The Guide states: Exciting, high-quality oil in terms of its fruits and its origin, produced thanks to sustainable farming practises and with a good price/quality ratio.
But what does this really mean? Well one thing is sure and you can see it for yourself if you look on their web page www.slowfood.com: Slow Food keep their eyes and ears open for all examples of excellence. Slow Food’s moto is “Good, Clean and Fair”. Slow Food envisions a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet. I don’t believe that this alone is enough to reach the summit of excellence, but it is certainly a necessary foundation.
I want to thank Slow Food for including us in their Guide. I SERGENTI joins them in their vision of spreading quality and wellbeing to all the tables of the world!
